JAKARTA, PGSP.- After a tough process, the jury team agreed to decide
that six researchers are qualified as the winner of a research grant
in the field of decentralization and regional autonomy. The research
grant program was organized by the University of Atma Jaya and is fully
supported by the Provincial Governance Strengthening Programme-United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP-PGSP). The six researchers are
successfully selected from 129 research proposals were received by the
committee. The six winners of the the research grant are; Dicky Andrika from Andalas (S1); Abdullah Sanusi from Hasanuddin University (S3); Diah Setyorini from University Jenderal Sudirman (young researcher); Riski Raisa Putra as a Junior Expert Staff, First Deputy Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (young researcher); Rumayya Batubara from Airlangga University, and Aryos Nivada from Almuslim University, Bireuen (young researcher). "There are many interesting research topics, but in general the weakness of the proposal is mostly on its methodology that is going to be used by the researcher," said Chairman of the Jury Team, Siti Saadah, when met at the Atma Jaya University, Jakarta, Thursday (14/2). Among the winners, there is no one from S2 category who qualify to get the grant although the committee was originally set quotas for the 11 winners, consists of three S1, each two to S2 and S3, and four young researchers. Siti said it deeply regrets this happened. However, the jury must be consistent with the criteria and qualifications agreed. According to Aldi, the chairman of the organizing committee from Atma Jaya University, the committee received 143 proposals. However, they only processing 129 proposals since the other 14 proposals were received behind the schedule. Next, the six researchers will work doing research until the end of March under supervision by a team of juries and mentors at the university or institution where they work. Amount of grant is vary depend on its category; 1000 USD for undergraduate level; 2500 USD for postgraduate level; 3500 USD for S3; and 2500 USD for young researcher. The grant will be given in several termins during the research process. The Research Team Leader from PGSP-UNDP, Harry Seldadyo said that he was satisfied with the enthusiasm and interest of the research in the field of decentralization and local autonomy. "We are satisfied with the enthusiasm and this is far beyond our expectations. We initially estimated the number of proposals at most only 30, but it was more than that," he said.
